Sintered materials made of porous stainless steel (SIPERM® R, 1.4404) or porous polyethylene (SIPERM® HP, PE-UHMW) are suitable as sensor protection in measuring devices for the qualitative and quantitative determination of gases or humidity.

SIPERM® materials have a homogeneous pore distribution, which ensures uniform diffusion of the gases to be detected and thus protects the often highly sensitive measuring sensors from strong fluctuations. The targeted and precise adjustment of the material porosity allows an optimum synergy to be found between the response speed of the measuring sensor and protection of the measuring head against contamination or flame penetration.

In the stainless steel sector, the porous geometries are often pressed into or onto the respective solid connecting parts such as threads, flanges, pots or housings using an appropriate pressing tool and then sintered together. In the sintering process, stable chemical compounds are formed, particularly at the interfaces between porous and non-porous materials, which lead to a high mechanical strength of the components. Sensor protection units manufactured in this way can be screwed directly to the measuring device. Assembly errors that can occur with other joining processes such as welding, gluing or clamping are thus avoided. Find out more about our sintered materials now !

Various solutions are available for connecting the porous material to the measuring device.

Sensor protection heads made of porous polyethylene (SIPERM® HP) focus on other properties. For example, the naturally hydrophobic PE offers moisture-sensitive sensors reliable protection against moisture. If the material is hydrophilized, however, it can be used as sensor protection in soil analysis for moisture determination. This porous material can also be connected directly to solid measuring device components, threaded parts, etc. in various ways.

These are our sintered materials for sensor protection!
