Aeration / hydrophobic aeration
If gases are to be evacuated from fluids without simultaneous liquid-transport or electric facilities shall be ventilated, then both inherently hydrophobic or for this purpose hydrophobized filter materials are suitable. Due to the great difference between the sur-face energy of the highly porous body and the surface tension of the liquid, large contact angles occur on the contact surfaces, which prevent the infiltration of the liquid into the porous material.
Classic applications for hydrophobic porous materials are:
- Medical technology
- Aeration of electric facilities
For applications at temperatures up to 70°C inherently hydrophobic polyethylene (Siperm HP) is suitable. For higher temperature ranges there are hydrophobized bronze (Siperm B) or hydrophobized stainless steel (Siperm R) available.
